It has been several months since confirmation of my last ATNO but thanks to the hard work of Vieques Island Amateur Radio Club using remote operation they were able to put KP5 Desecheo Island on the air for the first time since 2009..

So far I have been fortunate enough to work KPs/NP3VI on 10, 12 and 17 meter FT8. Confirmation has already been provided via LOTW.

Desecheo Island is a small, rugged, uninhabited island located in the Mona Passage off the west coast of Puerto Rico, known for its dramatic cliffs, dry subtropical forest, and surrounding coral reefs. Once used for military training, the island has since been the focus of major environmental restoration efforts, including the successful removal of invasive species that allowed native plants and wildlife to recover. Today, Desecheo is a protected nature reserve, home to seabird colonies, lizards, and rich marine life, and it is internationally recognized by amateur radio operators as one of the world’s most sought-after DX locations due to its rare status and strict access limitations.

It’s been awhile since I’ve worked a new country. But thanks to Krishna K Kanakasapapathi, W4VKU from Cary, NC I was able to work Andaman Island for #318

Krishna is on a multi-island solo dxpedition using simultaneous FT8 stations using MSHV software for 24 hour operation. He first went to Lakshadweep Island as VU7A (worked on 40, 30 and 17M). Then on to Andaman Island as VU4N where I worked him on 30M. Andaman has been quite difficult with high local QRN and 1.8 meter tides.

Confirmed in LOTW 7/29/2024

Krish returned to Andaman Island in December 2024 and operated as VU4A. I was fortunate enough to work him on 20M and amazingly 80M! Both FT8 contacts were confirmed in LOTW on 12/18/24!
